New electrified route of Southern Railway consists of 95 mi of extension from Hampton Court Junction; power obtained from grid substations; company's own generating station at Durnsford Road, Wimbledon, provided with 12,500 kw turbo alternating set; rectification by mercury arc installations converts grid supply to 660 v d-c.
