Measurements of effect of grades upon operation costs; two series of tests on late model passenger automobiles; "floating" grade, down which given car can travel with throttle closed and without use of brakes; relationship between amount of grade and gasoline consumption showing that balanced grades up to 6% cause negligible increases in gasoline consumption and tire wear and no increase in brake wear and oil consumption.
