Traction motor and gear unit incorporates qualities of smallness, compactness and light weight which make it especially adaptable to wide range of locomotive sizes where weight saved in traction motor may be used in Diesel engine to provide more powerful locomotive without increasing weight; speed of double reduction motor is 67% as much as that of modern single reduction motor which makes it unsuitable for heavier high speed road locomotives.
