Profiting by experience with American engine under war time conditions with poor quality fuel, London Midland and Scottish Railway Co fitted certain engines with features similar to those found of value in imported units; results have been so satisfactory that on all new engines, improvements will be adopted as standard; they comprise rocking grate, self emptying ashpan, and self cleaning smokebox.
