Built in 1935 experimentally at Crewe Works of London, Midland and Scottish Railways in accordance with designs of W. Stanier; except that it is equipped with multi-stage non-condensing turbines, it is similar to series of 4-cyl "Pacific" type express locomotives constructed between 1933 and 1935; turbine performance of two types compared; weights and dimensions given.
