Techniques are investigated for soft landing of manned and unmanned vehicles on moon; primary interest is terminal phase of landing just prior to touchdown, at which time final controlled decelerations are applied to vehicle; 2 different guidance concepts for terminal phase are presented and guidance equations, sensor performance, and fuel requirements given; application of concepts to unmanned vehicle on direct descent trajectory and manned vehicle on approach trajectory from lunar parking orbit.
