Method of accomplishing soft landings at predetermined points on lunar surface is presented; guidance system used is self-contained and may be applied to either hyperbolic approach or descent from parking orbit; analytical determination of descent trajectories and possible system implementation of pinpoint landing scheme; requirements for onboard sensing and navigation equipment and procedures for automatic and manual guidance operations; results showing effectiveness of guidance scheme for variety of initial conditions and with various forms of thrust control are presented.
