Deep ocean ships are designed for combined oceanographical and hydrographical role, and will be constructed by Yarrow and Co with collaboration of Blythswood Shipbuilding Co on 2 of 3 hulls planned; length oa 260 ft, beam 49 ft, draft 15 ft, displacement 2800 tons; each ship will have 3 Davey Paxman diesel engines each driving d-c main generator; these are connected in series to single electric propulsion motor of 2000 shp at 190 rpm.
