Results of motions experienced in heavy seas by T-2 tanker modified by removal of section of ship structure to provide large vertical well, required for conversion to ARTEMIS support ship; longitudinal beams and ship plating were cut from main deck level to baseline for length of 48 ft and width of 31 ft; heavy reinforcement was necessary, and verification of its adequacy and information on effect of modification on response of ship to sea were required; comparison is made with unmodified T-2 tanker, Esso Asheville, for pitching motions in State 4 to 5 seas.
