Latest Werkspoor installation is designed to achieve minimum fuel consumption, operation by 1 person, low repair and maintenance costs and small space and weight for minimum first cost, without applying new, untested designs; with plant for 90,000-ton dw tanker, length of engine room has been shortened by at least 8 frame spaces mainly because boiler is arranged above main turbines of Werkspoor-Pametrade design with secondary gear set arranged on horizontal shaft centers; steam conditions chosen are 1000 psi and 1000 F at superheater outlet; specific fuel rate of cycle is 0.428 lb/shp-hr; arrangement is shown in plan and design of components is described.
