Research program of British Ship Research, National Institute of Oceanography and National Physical Laboratory on seagoing qualities of ships has been extended; with cooperation of Shell, general purpose Shell tanker Hemifusus has been instrumented, and is now on voyage to Curacao, Durban and Lagos, during which special maneuvers and trials in selected sea conditions will be carried out; vessel was built by Cammell Laird in 1954, is powered by steam turbines double reduction geared to single shaft, and is of 18,000 tons dw, with oa length of 555 ft 7 in., extreme breadth of 69 ft 4 in. and summer draft of 29 ft 9 1/4 in.
