Designed from outset as strike fighter with full VTOL capability, Hawker P.1127 is powered by Bristol Siddeley Pegasus lift-thrust engine; outstanding feature of craft is that it can be flown from zero to zero in all directions and in all conditions without any difficulty; to date, 43 1/2 hr of flying time were accomplished with first 2 prototypes; details of vertical takeoffs made, tethered hovering and untethered hovering flights.
