Account of design background to P.1127V/STOL strike fighter and its BS.53 vectored thrust power plant; Pegasus engine is turbofan in which major part of fan delivery air is ducted through 2 outlets situated on either side of engine while remainder of air is passed through h-p compressor, combustion chamber and turbines before exhausting through 2 nozzles at rear of engine; performance and handling; operational characteristics of aircraft are described.
