As of Dec 31 1961 13 local service airlines in United States operated 38 turboprop aircraft, 100 2-engine postwar piston aircraft and 212 D C-3 aircraft in scheduled service; review of each category of equipment used by local service airlines; to reduce future public service payments, local air carriers must secure access to heavier traffic markets on more regional basis and operate aircraft type that will develop and not inhibit air travel; it appears that turboprop aircraft has greatest potential and that DC-3 aircraft is not yet completely replaced.
