T/S Martin-Fierro is equipped to load itself from large coal carrying ships in deep water, then unload itself at dockside in carrying coal to large Argentine steel plant; specially designed vessel goes out to deep water to lighten large ocean-going coal mines for up-river passage; 2 1000-tph clamshells feed remotely controlled hopper car which distributes coal through tripper to Martin-Fierro holds; port and starboard belt conveyors are 54-in. wide; Martin-Fierro can serve up to 6 ocean carriers economically.
