SPAR (Seagoing Platform for Acoustic Research) is 354 ft long, cylindrical vessel, towed in horizontal attitude, then changed to vertical attitude to become stable platform which will be used for acoustic research, primarily for underwater sound transmission and propagation studies; SPAR is unmanned and will be controlled and receive its power over floating cable from nearby ship; generally SPAR will be used with pair of oceanographic vessels.
