Faced with difficult track conditions resulting from soft spots in roadbed at points where drainage is practically nonexistent, Missouri Pacific Railroad studied feasibility of using form of sub-ballast support to give uniform distribution of traffic loads to subgrade; installation undertaken involving 4600 ft of track; article describes conditions to be overcome, plan for supporting track and methods of making installation.
