First line was built in 1900; in 1929 length of two now merged companies reached 75 mi. and 850,000,000 passengers were transported; traffic stations and trains are very uniform; chief attention of Metropolitan Co., town, and departmental authorities, is now drawn to scheme of development of underground lines outside city borders; future extension will be very essential factor to growth of greater Paris.
