Four-gimbal, fully aerobatic platform, to be used with Ferranti inertial navigation system and as reference system for aircraft, space vehicles and ships, carries three single-axis floated rate integrating gyros, three single-axis, force-feedback accelerometers and associated pre-amplifiers, azimuth fan, and temperature control unit; description of two types of gyros available, accelerometers, and four variants of platform; design philosophy employed and problems encountered; at present, prototype platforms with associated electronics and navigation computers are undergoing tests which include 1500 hr laboratory running, 1000 hr running in light road vehicle, 160 flying hours.
