At request of Federal Aviation Agency, Ad Hoc Group on Aviation Fuel Safety organized by Coordinating Research Council, reviewed technical information available concerning safe handling and usage of aviation gasolines, Jet A (kerosene), and Jet B (JP-4); consensus of Group is that adoption of single type of aviation turbine fuel by entire industry would not significantly improve overall excellent safety record of commercial aviation, and that safety is more function of equipment design, proper handling techniques, and rigorous precautions than of particular fuel type employed.
