Unit called "impact sled" is described, developed at General Motors, which permits nondestructive, controllable, repeatable tests of full scale actual vehicles and components under indoor laboratory conditions; partial vehicle and dummies, equipped with several accelerometers, are used for car crash tests; data yielded by tests serve to build more safety into passenger compartment.
