Built for London Midland and Scottish Railway Co., by W. Denny and Bros., Dumbarton; length, o.a. 323 ft.; breadth, molded 47 ft.; depth, molded to main deck 17 ft.; capable of carrying 1250 passengers, in addition to mails, motor cars, cargo, and cattle; propelling machinery consists of two sets of Parsons turbines with single-reduction gearing; steam is generated by four Babcock and Wilcox water-tube boilers working at pressure of 225 lb. per sq. in.; arranged to burn Coal on closed stokehold principle.
