Calculations based on time wasted by four different types of controllers show that present arrangement wastes but 62 per cent as much time as old-fixed-cycle controller and 80 per cent as much as theoretically perfect cycle; automatic controller extends time of green signal on busy street because of decreased traffic on minor street, and this decreases average wasted time of major-street cars.
