Effect of boundary layer control on lift and drag of airfoil equipped with backward opening slot determined; various slot locations, widths of opening, and pressures, used; greatest increase in maximum lift was 96 per cent; greatest decrease in minimum drag 27 per cent; greatest increase in ratio of maximum lift coefficient over minimum drag coefficient was 151 per cent; advantages of slot under ideal conditions of 100 per cent duct-blower efficiency.
