Originally designed for industrial purposes Roots blower was developed for aircraft-engine use by National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics; design and construction are outlined; supercharger weighs 88 lb. and is operated from rear of engine at one-half times crank-shaft speed; its rotors are cycloidal in form, 9 1/2 in. in diameter and 11 in. long; displacement is 0.51 cu. ft. of air per revolution of rotors; results of tests made by National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
