Displacement tonnage of this class is limited by Treaty of Versailles to 6000 tons; Leipzig has waterline length of 165.77 m.; vessel is triple-screw, two wing shafts being driven by steam turbines supplied from six oil-fired double-ended water-tube boilers; center shaft is driven by M.A.N. Diesel of particularly light construction, of double-acting, compressorless, two-stroke, high-speed type; armament consists of nine 15cm. guns placed in three turrets, one forward and two aft.
