Factor of safety of motor truck in regard to stress and strain is considered; stresses are anticipated, but with abuse they become strains; normal loads and normal speeds essential to proper care of trucks; if speed of truck is increased from 10 to 30 m.p.h., each irregularity in road will cause shock stress nine times more violent than at its first speed of m.p.h.
