Motor trucks move more than 70 per cent of 150,000 tons of feldspar produced annually in Spruce Pine district, all or part of way from mines to local grinding plants or to rail lines for shipment to grinding plants at other places; as state highways were improved small motor trucks began to replace horse-drawn wagons for longer hauls; construction of improved private roads to extend use of motor trucks beyond State highways; trucks also used to some extent in handling surface mining operations.
