Serious adverse changes of aerodynamic characteristics occur as local speed over surface exceeds local speed of sound; these changes have been delayed to higher free stream speeds by development of suitable airfoil shapes; method of deriving such airfoil shapes described; aerodynamic data for wide range of Mach numbers obtained from tests.
