Forging, assembly and machining of crankshaft for Doxford opposed piston engine present special problems, each cylinder requiring three throws with different measurements for top and bottom piston strokes, while in some instances additional crank is needed for scavenging-air-pump drive; methods used at Haywood forge of Walter Somers, Ltd, Halesowen, in production of Doxford engine crankshafts.
