Special emphasis placed on providing improved pick-up and delivery service, efficient freight station and transfer operations, prompt switching and forwarding of cars, overnight service, and coordinated rail-truck service between zone break-bulk stations and intermediate freight stations; to improve pick-up and delivery service, railroad operated trucks were established in principal cities and jobbing centers; microfilming, mechanical accounting and time keeping and automatic car weighing adopted.
