Practice of fitting tool to job in selection of railroad Diesel electric power, as compared to prior practice wherein steam locomotives were purchased and afterward tested with dynamometer car to determine their hauling capacity, not only fits correct Diesel electric locomotive to job, but also determines economics involved, both from initial investment standpoint as well as from annual operating expense comparison.
