Operational Flight Control (OFC) monitors and assesses operating status of launch vehicle and its systems during flight, predicts malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective actions; status of vehicle and of mission are measured and evaluated in real time to determine required commands and to initiate commands; should performance degradation rule out achievement of primary mission, then OFC selects and initiates one of several programmed alternate missions to make best use of remaining vehicle capability in relation to payload carried; on-board and ground instrumentation.
