Present jet traffic explosion should be followed by short-haul traffic explosion in 1970; Canada has excellent reputation in current short-haul utility aircraft design and should be planning to consolidate and expand its position in subsonic aircraft developments; paper attempts assessment of existing Canadian competence and potential in comparison with international trends in aircraft industry; survival of Canadian aircraft industry appears to lie in vigorous attack upon V/STOL aircraft, which integrates government and industry in shared program.
