Decca Omnitrac installation provides for pilot pictorial display on which present position and track of aircraft is continuously plotted; system uses Dectra, Loran C, and Doppler for long range overwater flights, and Decca, VOR/DME and Doppler for short range flights; automatic guidance through autopilot along any selected flight path is included; display provides marked advance in reducing cockpit workload by showing aircraft position on chart, thus eliminating mental effort in estimating position; safety is improved by clearly plotting relationship of aircraft to known geographical hazards; accuracies in order of few miles have been observed on transatiantic flights.
