Mat tested was designed and fabricated by Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Sales Co, and is sandwich-type structure composed of aluminum honeycomb core bonded by adhesives on top and bottom to aluminum facings; traffic tests were conducted on prepared subgrade with rolling wheel load simulating actual aircraft operations; tests were conducted with single-wheel load of 25,000 lb with tire-inflation pressure of 250 psi on mat-surfaced subgrade with rated CBR of 3.6.
