Connected and cognitive driving is a central research topic that is being worked on intensively both in industry and at scientific research institutions as a promising way of realising Vision Zero. The topic draws from many different areas of research. Besides algorithms and decision-making processes for automated driving vehicles and communication technologies for interaction between road users, the human component plays a central role. This report gives an overview over these three facets and introduces the framework and the overall concept of the newly formed Thuringian "Cooperative and Connected Driving" research unit.
