Existing Traffic Information Systems accumulates lot of historic records. It provides the possibility to excavate some information to discover traffic congestion mechanism. Based on the historic data accumulated in Shanghai Expressway Traffic Monitor Center, data mining system architecture is proposed. Case study shows these results help to traffic management department to deal with traffic congestion more efficiently.
