Vessel collision avoidance is one of the most important problems of mariners. By establishing the onboard coordinate system, this paper realized the conversion from earth coordinate system to onboard coordinate system and studied the relative velocity and locus of the target vessel in terms of the vessel in question. Meanwhile, we analyzed the case involving three ships and the influence of the hull angle on their trajectories. In addition, this paper sets the closest encountering distance as the goal to be optimized and constructed collision model under the onboard coordinate system. After analyzing time's influence on trajectory, we simulate the respective relative trajectory of each ship in our case study and further worked out the condition for actual collision to happen.
