Along with the rapid increase of China’s expressway, expressway service areas have also developed rapidly. By the end of 2013 China’s expressway service areas had reached more than 1800 pairs. In 2012, the policy of small car free passage in major holidays was issued by the Ministry of Transportation, making expressway service areas a hot spot of emerging society. The initial basic function such as toilets, restaurants, convenience stores, parking lots, fuel and so on already can’t meet the multi-level needs, and the development of expressway service areas is facing great opportunities and challenges. In order to better serve the users, this article begins from the expressway service area function orientation, and realizes the sustainable development of service areas. The paper begins from the economic attribute of expressway service areas, and analyzes the cause of mismatch between demand and supply of expressway service area services through the questionnaire investigation of expressway service area users and administrators, and then gives advice to improve service.
