Line planning is the primary task of high-speed railway construction. Station layout design along the previously-planned line is the second phase. Optimized distribution of high-speed railway stations could improve passing capacity and operational performance of the line. First, the paper details a general layout theory of high-speed railway stations. To estimate the quantity of high-speed railway stations a concept of "reasonable distance between stations" — which is a focused point in the planning of railway stations — was introduced. The paper then establishes a hierarchical index system, measures the weights of the indexes by the Analytic Hierarchy Process, and establishes a layout evaluation model of high-speed railway stations in which the marks of quantitative indexes are determined by membership function, and the marks of qualitative indexes are determined by fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Finally, based on the model, the best layout scheme of Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway stations was determined, which was consistent with the actual situation.
