In order to explore drivers’ stopping sight distance needs, ensure the drivers’ driving safety, and consider the project cost, accident types on median strip of freeway without sufficient sight distance in Zhejiang province is analyzed and classified. Meanwhile, the car-following model and the lane-changing model are proposed based on the stopping sight distance model. The lengths of sight distance and corresponding curve radius required for vehicle safely to follow and change lanes are computed. The results show that the driver’s demand for driving safety sight distance will be significantly lower than the stopping sight distance required by “design specification for highway alignment.”
