Interactions of right-turning vehicles and straight going bicycles occurs frequently at signalized intersections under traditional signal control schemes, which causes unsafe and inefficient operation of traffic. In this paper, a signal control scheme is proposed with the objective of changing the above-mentioned unfavorable conditions for the better. This scheme takes the operational characteristics of vehicle-flow in the entrance lane and bicycle-flow under serious consideration. The results show: the proposed scheme helps to improve the utilization of the entrance lane and green time within the intersection, conflicts between right-turning vehicles and straight going bicycles are also avoided. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the optimal allocation of time and space resources of the intersection.
