Problems related to environmental protection together with the shortage of oil resources have aroused interest in alternative fuels, as they are considered more environmentally friendly. The aims of this paper are to investigate the effect of ethanol additives on conventional diesel fuel in different percentages and to evaluate the effect of these additives on the power and environmental performance of a common-rail engine with a turbocharger. This investigation is conducted with different blends of ethanol and diesel, by volume: 10% ethanol (E10), 20% ethanol (E20).
