In the classical Stefan solution of solidification in liquids, the solid–liquid interface temperature is considered to be constantly equal to the freezing point. However, if solidification occurred in supercooled liquids, then the interface temperature would be lower than the freezing point due to the nonequilibrium condition. In this study, the interface temperature during rapid freezing of supercooled water is investigated by molecular dynamics simulations. The relationship of interface temperature and velocity is analyzed and fitted into a quadratic function. In most aviation ice accretion situations, the degree of nonequilibrium condition at the ice–water interface falls in a range of interfacial supercooling from 0 to 4 K. Given this condition, the relationship of interface velocity and temperature could be approximated by a constant interfacial kinetic coefficient of . Both regularities are applicable in numerical simulation of dendrite ice growth.
