The control of turboprop and turboshaft engines is presented in detail.
Turboprop examples include single shaft and power turbine configurations covering both traditional hydro‐mechanical and modern FADEC implementations.
Propeller control using the traditional Constant Speed Unit (CSU) and direct control of propeller pitch (beta mode) for reverse thrust is described.
Turboshaft (helicopter) applications are covered in detail including extensive dynamic analyses of power turbine governing control systems for both gas generator governor reset and fuel flow trim control modes. Once again, root locus techniques are employed to help visualize movement of the closed loop roots as governor gain is increased.
