Acoustic leak finders with correlation signal processing are currently widely used for testing whether the pipelines of heat networks are leak proof. The operating principle of these instruments is based on the passive location of acoustic noise (acoustic emission) that arises when a liquid leaks through a discontinuity in the presence of an excessive pressure in a tube. The leak location is determined with two transducers that are mounted on the pipeline wall on both sides from the supposed leak location. The signal propagation times to the transducers are different and depend on the damage location. An algorithm for filtering acoustic-emission signals and a technique for measuring the velocity of sound during searches for leaks in pipelines of heat networks are considered. The results of experimental studies are presented.
