In the last few decades there has been a surge in the number of plastic components used in the automobile. Alongside applications in the engine compartment, fuel system and bodywork, this increase in plastic consumption is primarily to be found in the automobile interior. Forecasting and market estimations for the use of plastics in automotive design see further potential for growth in this group of materials in the passenger compartment above all. With this increase in plastic components, there will also be an increasing use of decorative components, predominantly Tecomelt parts. Applications range from jong, narrow pillar trim parts to large-area components such as door trim panels and luggage compartment lining.
