Purpose of this work is the characterisation of space solar cells based on III-V compounds at high temperature and high insolation typical of interplanetary missions towards the Sun and Mercury. Several types of bare solar cells have been selected, namely GaAs and InGaP single junction and InGaP/GaAs/Ge dual and triple junction. Testing has been carried out up to 300 deg C under vacuum to verify cell stability and recovery of the radiation damage. For these types of missions the solar cells shall be tilted with respect to the Sun to reduce the working temperature. The effect of tilted illumination on multjunction cells has been evaluated. High intensity illumination (up to 20 suns) has been also considered. This work is a preliminary activity carried out to identify the solar cell critical issues in view of a possible application in some ESA high temperature missions.
