Electrification and automation of vehicles as well as the advent of modern rolling chassis concepts pave the way to electromechanical brake actuators. Simplified vehicle assembly and maintenance along with a feature set that fosters sustainable mobility give electromechanical brakes an edge over their electrohydraulic counterparts which are proven for a long time.
It is a challenge, however, to achieve the level of safety and reliability which customers are used to from traditional dual-circuit (electro)hydraulic brake systems.
The paper will therefore
analyze the requirements regarding safety and reliability top-down from a vehicle level to the actuator level for different vehicle configurations
derive FIT Rate targets
discuss redundancy architectures which meet these requirements in an efficient way and
propose functional allocations
